Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher is officially the leading candidate for the LSU job, according to multiple sources Monday. The school is expected to “aggressively pursue” Fisher starting after the Florida game Saturday.
Fisher helped the Seminoles win the BCS National Title in 2014, and has yet to confirm or deny interest in the LSU job. LSU is very familiar to Jimbo, who served as the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator there during the Nick Saban era. His run at Florida State has been wildly successful, although some would admit he may have hit the ceiling on his potential in Tallahassee.
Interim LSU coach Ed Orgeron is expected to get an interview, but Saturday’s 16-10 loss at home to Florida may have been the death nail. Fisher has a $5 million dollar buyout in his current contract, which is set to run through 2022.
