Buffalo Bills fire Rex Ryan before season finale

We saw this coming. Rex Ryan was fired this morning in Buffalo, along with brother and defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. Saturday’s loss against the Dolphins ended up being the nail in the coffin for Rex, where not only did the Bills lose in overtime, but too many mistakes cost his team and the Ryans in the end.

Anthony Lynn, the offensive coordinator for Buffalo, will lead the team into their game against Rex’s other former team, the Jets. Ryan leaves the Bills with a 15-16 record in two years at the helm, and an unclear coaching future after another very short stint as a head coach.

Twitter quickly reacted to Rex Ryan’s firing Tuesday:

Anthony Lynn is expected to be a lead candidate for the head coaching role, however Buffalo will join the Jaguars and Rams in the coaching search. Former Giants coach Tom Coughlin suddenly will get some interest in Buffalo as well, along with Detroit’s offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter and Oakland’s Bill Musgrave.
