The Tom Herman to Texas Rumors are heating up.
ESPN first reported that the Houston head coach is number one on the Longhorn boosters list to replace current coach Charlie Strong. Herman, who coached his Houston Cougars to an impressive win over #5 Louisville Thursday, will have his choice of openings.
There has also been a scenario rumored that would have Herman going to Florida State, assuming current coach Jimbo Fisher leaves Talahassee after the season to take the LSU job. Texas is currently 5-5, with two games remaining (Kansas, TCU). Most feel that if Charlie Strong suffers one more regular season defeat, he will be out. Herman has not addressed rumors directly of him leaving Houston, however it is believed he would command a salary in the $6 Million/year range.
Herman is no stranger to Texas, having ties as a graduate assistant during the Mack Brown era. Many know Herman best as the offensive coordinator who helped Ohio State win the national title in 2014. Texas has struggled over the past three years under Strong to be relevant in the Big 12 and college football playoff picture, while other schools in the state (Texas A&M, Houston) have consistently been ranked higher in the polls.
